Michelangelo Antonioni
米开朗基罗·安东尼奥尼
Italian director, 1912–2007. His films are set largely in modern cities and industrial landscapes, with plot reduced and figures often placed at the edge of the frame. L'Avventura, La Notte and L'Eclisse, made in the early 1960s, are usually grouped together.
Career
Antonioni came to film through criticism and documentary shorts in the 1940s and began directing features in 1950. L'Avventura was jeered by part of the audience at its Cannes premiere in 1960 and went on to take the Jury Prize there.
L'Avventura, La Notte and L'Eclisse are usually grouped together, sharing a reduced plot, figures placed at the edge of the frame, and a reliance on architecture and space to carry the film. Red Desert, in 1964, was his first in colour, achieved by painting the locations themselves. He later worked in Britain, the United States and China, and took part in completing several films after a stroke in 1985.
