Psycho

Psycho is a 1960 American film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, produced by Paramount, with Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, a secretary who absconds with money from her employer, and Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, who runs a roadside motel. Marion stops there for the night and is stabbed to death in the shower roughly a third of the way through the film; the remainder follows her sister and a private investigator retracing her movements. The shower sequence is assembled from several dozen shots, and Bernard Herrmann's score is written for strings alone. The film was shot in black and white by Hitchcock's television crew and cost considerably less than his other work of the period. The screenplay is adapted from the novel by Robert Bloch.
