Lawrence of Arabia

Lawrence of Arabia is a 1962 British and American co-production directed by David Lean, with Peter O'Toole as T. E. Lawrence, Omar Sharif as Sherif Ali and Alec Guinness as Prince Faisal. It draws on Lawrence's service during the First World War and on his book Seven Pillars of Wisdom: attached to the Arab Revolt as a British liaison officer, he helps bring rival tribes together to take Aqaba across the Nefud desert, and later sees the outcome of the revolt divided between Britain and France at Damascus. It was shot in 70mm on location in Jordan, Morocco and Spain, runs about two hundred and sixteen minutes, and was released with an intermission. It received seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
