Gloria Swanson

American actor, 1899–1983. She was among the leading stars of the silent period and also produced her own films in the 1920s. Her output declined after the arrival of sound, and in 1950 she played the forgotten silent star Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.
